it hits me when i'm lying in bed at night.

my skin is bare, soft against yours.
i've never let anybody else hold me quite like this.
never let anybody hold my heart with quite this grip

and maybe it's in the way your breathing hitches
just south of dreamland
or maybe in the way
your ankles are twined with mine
and the air feels warmer closest to you

i get goosebumps from the thought
of the letters that spell "forever"

for once, i'm pretty sure i'm not scared

because if "forever" means a yard and a dog
four cars, two jobs, three rats
and a warm bed at night

then i'll lace my fingers into your palm
and jump without closing my eyes
